Little Buddha of the Blossom temple
In This setting this little Buddha actually sits serenely at my studio entrance. Buddha is considered a symbolic reminder of peace, tranquillity and acceptance. By placing one near these two offering temples and some apple blossom, it felt like I had come upon an especially contemplative place within the garden; perfect to rest and meditate awhile where both natural and man made beauty stand in perfect synergy.
Shadows on the Sand
Inks can move on the canvas in such unpredictable and mysterious ways and when dry form interesting shapes and shadowed effects, especially if the canvas surface is deliberately textured. In this landscape painting, the ‘shadowed’ area has become a focal point and the question it poses to the viewer is, “What is it standing over to the left that can’t be seen?” “Is it a camel, a tree, a horse, or something quite different”? I find the simplicity and this notion of not knowing for certain, adds a dimension to the picture that takes the mind and imagination quickly beyond what is actually seen here, into the place of many possibilities...
